Bears hit back to overcome Alsager
CONGLETON Town claimed the first local bragging rights of the season when they came from behind to win 2-1 at Alsager Town.
The Bears could have taken the lead inside two minutes, but Alsager keeper Mike Langley did well to smother Andy Hurst's drive.
Somewhat against the run of play, Alsager took the lead on 17 minutes when Lee Jones's ball over the top found Dean Williams, who slid it into the far corner of the Congleton net.
Williams almost doubled the Bullets' lead three minutes before the break, but his goal-bound effort was cleared by Richard Smith.
Congleton were level three minutes into the second half when Langley failed to smother Ryan Baker's cross from the right, leaving Daniel Griggs to slam the ball home from close range.
The visitors had come flying out the blocks in the second period and led six minutes later.
New signing Phil Parkinson's cross from the right, found Andy Kinsey, who leapt the highest at the back post to power the ball beyond Langley.
They could have made the points safe two minutes into injury-time, but Griggs fired wide after intercepting Nathan Griffiths' attempted clearance.
Alsager Town: Langley, McCarthy, James, Griffiths, Clarke, Swan, Wilson, Jones, Williams, Whitney, Taylor. Subs: Buckley, Roberts, Strode, Hebblewhite.
Congleton Town: Conkie, Robinson, Bostock, Brotherton, Smith, Nesbitt, Baker, Parkinson, Hurst, Kinsey, Griggs. Subs: Tulloch, Twigg, Fitton, John, Short.
