In response to davb48's query, everyone does just roll over and leave it to them.
Don't attempt to criticise anyone though or ask why there is no accountability or you'll have Collie Dog on your tail (scary!!).
Another mid-table finish in an increasingly weak league, falling attendances, no improvements to the ground (time for another handout from the Town Council ?), let's all pat the owners on the back............

In response to davb48's query, everyone does just roll over and leave it to them. I agree, what a pity there is such abject apathy amongst people towards it's primary representative football club.
Another mid-table finish in an increasingly weak league Which obviously explains why two of last years promoted teams have gained immediate promotion to the Unibond Premier. Next season will see the new FA Vase champions Kirkham & Wesham plying their trade in the 1st division (subject to ground grading) and AFC Liverpool in the 2nd division., falling attendances Fair point, but not restricted to just this football club and obviously you need success like Nantwich to get the people back through the gates., no improvements to the ground (time for another handout from the Town Council ?) With so little money what were you expecting? Last season the new goalposts and nets were introduced and the shed at the bottom end of the ground was 4/5ths completed. Pretty much everything else was cosmetic and requires re-doing again. Oh and these 'jobs' don't do themselves btw!, let's all pat the owners on the back............ So they aren't perfect, but then who is? Rest assured though that all those people associated with the running of the Club who could be bothered to get up off their arses and actually do something, will all be working hard during the close season to make progress towards meeting your exacting standards and to get in the additional funding required for next season's promotion push.
Don't attempt to criticise anyone though or ask why there is no accountability or you'll have Collie Dog on your tail (scary!!). I assure you, my bark's far worse than my bite! I invite you to do what I did, which was stop criticising and get involved. People assume, wrongly, that I now uphold the status quo. However, although it takes time, it's far easier to change things from the inside and given that time I anticipate that you'll get the accountability you believe you deserve.

I can't help but align my wholehearted and utter agreement with this extraordinary post above. When you have a club where the two main positions are also the two owners, there is never any hope for accountability. In effect, they are their own bosses. They won't sack themselves. They have no failure standards or targets to meet. It's a very comfortable position for them, and a very unsatisfactory one for any fans who dare to have a shred of ambition for the club.

Oh Collie Dog, I do get involved, but unlike you I work from the outside.
I hope that you are successful in obtaining a level of accountability from the owners, however past experience would suggest otherwise.
You can refer to my 'criticism' but the fact is that the club is not showing any tangible signs of progress, and has not been for some time. Indeed you refer to the towns primary representative football club - with the progress made by Congleton Vale over the past few years this may soon change.

Oh Collie Dog, I do get involved, but unlike you I work from the outside. And I would invite you to share with us the nature of that involvement. And perhaps more importantly what the purpose of that involvement is and what the measure of success is in terms of bringing about the progress you so desire.I hope that you are successful in obtaining a level of accountability from the owners, however past experience would suggest otherwise. And the current owners have been involved as such for a relatively short period of time. Okay so they are the same people who were tasked with the running of the club for a significant period before that, but I think ownership is a much greater incentive for success and exerts greater pressure of accountability than merely holding a responsible position.
I have already secured the requisite permission from the club committee to publish abridged minutes of its’ meetings in match-day programmes. At present this does not extend to revealing detailed financial information, nor does it extend to encompass the detailed undertakings of the Development committee, although its’ agenda is discussed at committee level and I anticipate being able to publish information about the progress made on any projects initiated by that committee.
Despite the limits currently imposed, I still feel that this is a step in the right direction towards greater accountability and I will continue to push at the boundaries until such time as I deem those efforts to be wasted, or alternatively I’m shown the proverbial door by my peers. You can refer to my 'criticism' but the fact is that the club is not showing any tangible signs of progress, and has not been for some time. Indeed you refer to the towns primary representative football club - with the progress made by Congleton Vale over the past few years this may soon change. I don’t fully support that viewpoint. However I would never have gotten involved with the football club in any ‘official’ capacity, nor written my ‘There’s a general malaise at Booth Street’ submission on these forums, had I not been concerned about the general direction in which the club was heading and the lack of accountability to the community it is supposed to serve.
I don’t need to spell this out but progress is a subjective measure made over a period of time. Different people will have a different perspective of what constitutes progress and the duration of the period over which it is measured, based on many individual factors. Before allowing myself to accept an invitation into the club’s officialdom, I took a view on the past and although I recognise that there were many weaknesses and that mistakes were surely made, I heard sufficient from those already involved to convince me that there was a desire within the club to change. I also felt that the people involved deserved a (second, if you like) chance to effect that change. After all, until I had first hand experience of the day-to-day running of the club, how could I possibly begin to understand its’ foibles and its’ complexities?
Over the past two seasons I have seen change happening behind the scenes with a much wider involvement of people in the decision making process, although that can still be extended further and perhaps some of the thinking can be a bit archaic at times. Facilities are improving at a greater rate than wear and tear diminishes them and ground-grading criteria have only ever become more stringent over that time. Recently we have had a Unibond ground grading and there is nothing major to be undertaken should we attain promotion. Last season we achieved our highest finish in the league for five years and had two of the top three goal scorers, a feat not achieved for many years.
I also choose to disagree with those that suggest that this league has become weaker and weaker over the years since we dropped back down to this level. It is a difficult league to get out of for reasons I have already stated elsewhere and the relative success of those teams that have achieved promotion in the last five years only serves to indicate that the league has been as strong as ever, and in both the last two seasons we have been in the running for a big part of the season only to fall away in the final couple of months.
The club has not the disposable funds available to make giant leaps in progress and some may see that as a failing also. However, I have not heard any proposals from elsewhere that would guarantee the substantial level of investment required to attain rapid progress. It’s a slow process and yes we all get tired and frustrated when things don’t work out the way we would like.
I’m reliably informed the playing budget has been increased again for next season and many initiatives are in their infancy to secure additional sources of income. We are trying (some would say very) and there is more impetus than ever before coming from new sources – some of who were named at the recent awards event – to turn this club’s fortunes around. I want to be a part of that, so please give us a little more time and try to support those who want to effect change from within the club...
